Getting Started

What does the GLS Connector do?

It connects Odoo with GLS so you can ship your orders with GLS from Odoo. With the connector you can:

Set shipping rates with fixed prices or your own pricing rules.
Create shipping labels automatically when you validate the delivery order.
Track your shipments from Odoo.
Cancel shipments in GLS from Odoo.
Connect more than one GLS account.

Can I connect more than one GLS account?

Yes. You can connect and set up multiple GLS accounts in your Odoo database. Each account has its own credentials.

Does the connector get live shipping rates from GLS?

No. GLS does not support live rate calculation. You set your own rates on the delivery method instead, with GLS with Fixed Price or GLS with Based on Rules. This gives you full control over the price your customers pay.

Setup

Which GLS credentials do I need?

On the GLS shipping partner, enter:

GLS API Key
GLS API Secret
GLS Contact ID: the GLS contact identifier of your shipper account. GLS takes your shipper address from it automatically, so you do not enter the address yourself.

What does the Environment field do?

Environment tells the connector whether your credentials are certified for production. Turn it on only when GLS has certified your credentials for production.

What is the Access Token, and how do I renew it?

The Access Token is a unique token that the connector uses to authenticate its calls to the GLS API. To get a new one, click Generate New Token on the GLS shipping partner.

How do I set up a GLS delivery method?

Create a delivery method and choose GLS with Fixed Price or GLS with Based on Rules.
For a fixed price, enter the price. For rules, add your pricing rules.
Set Shipping Partner to configured GLS shipping partner
Open the Configuration tab.
Set the GLS Product, the GLS Package Type, and the Label Format.
Save the delivery method.

Which label formats can I choose?

In Label Format you can choose PDF, PNG, ZPL (Zebra 200 dpi) or ZPL (Zebra 300 dpi). Use a ZPL format when you print on a Zebra label printer.

Which GLS products are available?

In GLS Product you can choose Parcel, Express, Freight, Pharma or Pharma Plus.

How do I make a package type available for GLS?

Open the package type and set its carrier to GLS. You can then pick it as the GLS Package Type on your GLS delivery method.

Daily Use

How do I add a GLS shipping rate to a sales order?

Select your GLS delivery method with a fixed price or with rules on the sales order. Odoo adds the rate from your fixed price or pricing rules. Your customers can also choose GLS delivery methods when they order on your website.

When is the shipping label created?

The connector creates the shipping label as soon as you validate the delivery order. The tracking number and the shipping label then appear on the delivery order.

Can I ship one order in several packages?

Yes. Use the Put in Pack operation on the delivery order to put the products in more than one package before you validate it.

How do I track a shipment?

Open the delivery order. Click the Tracking button, it will redirect to GLS Tracking URL if you have single parcel else it will paste the Tracking links for shipment in to chatter. you can use the tracking links to see the status and location of the shipment.

Can I cancel a GLS shipment from Odoo?

Yes. You cancel the shipment in GLS directly from the delivery order in Odoo, with a single click.

Troubleshooting

I see "GLS does not support live rate calculation". What should I do?

Your delivery method tries to get a live rate from GLS, which GLS does not offer. Use a delivery method with GLS with Fixed Price instead.

I see "Error: this delivery method is not available for this address". What does it mean?

The delivery method you chose is not available for the delivery address of the order. Choose another delivery method for this order.

I see "The GLS API request timed out". What should I do?

GLS did not answer in time. Check your connection and try again.

I see "Failed to parse the response received from GLS". What should I do?

The connector could not read the answer it got from GLS. Try again. If the error comes back, contact us as described in GLS Connector Support Policy.
