Customer Creation During Order Import

When an order is imported, the connector resolves the buyer’s contacts from the order’s billing and delivery addresses and creates or reuses the matching Odoo contacts. Every contact in Odoo corresponds to a real customer who placed an order, without any manual import step.

How Customers Are Resolved

  • The billing address becomes the customer, and it is also used as the invoice contact.

  • A customer is remembered by its Octopia customer reference, so the same buyer is reused on later orders.

  • A separate Delivery contact is created from the delivery address of the order lines. When the lines carry different addresses, the first one is used and a warning is logged.

  • When the delivery address is a pickup point, the pickup point name is added to the second address line.

  • When Create Company Contact from Octopia? is enabled and the order is a business order or the billing address has a company name, a parent company contact is created and the customer is filed under it.

  • Every contact created by the connector is tagged Octopia.

What Information Is Brought In

  • Name, email and phone.

  • Street, street2 (address lines 2 and 3), city, ZIP, state and country.

  • Company name (when company contacts are enabled).

Important

Octopia withholds the delivery address until an order reaches In Preparation. An order imported earlier has no delivery contact.

Configuration Reference

The relevant settings live on the instance’s Customer tab. See Create an Octopia instance in Odoo.

Note

There is no standalone customer import operation, customers are created on demand while orders are imported.
